This film is set in place of 1940s-50s, Calcutta. This mystery thriller movie is based on the Bengali detective novel "Abar Byomkesh Bakshi" by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay. The story revolves round the genius criminal investigator who has a superior understanding about how criminals think. It tells an adventure of Ajit Banerjee alias Byomkesh who becomes a detective at the age of 16 to solve mysteries and crimes with his friend Jeeban Mullick alias 'Bongo'. As he grows up, he takes more challenging cases that other detectives are not able to solve them like murders, kidnapping etc. Byomkesh wants to fulfil his desires for solving the mystery, he faces many problems. He faces opposition from his family members who does not support him to take up detective jobs, his wife who is suspicious about his secret job, police officers who are jealous of him and very soon he has become an enemy of the most dangerous criminal masterminds in India. Byomkesh tries to solve different cases with his sharp intellect and wit.
The film was released in theaters on 28 April 2012. It was released on DVD later.
The film is based on the novel Abar Byomkesh Baki (English: "Beyond Byomkesh Bakshi") by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay which features the adventures of detective Ajit Banerjee, nicknamed "Byomkesh", during the 1940s and 1950s. His adventures are set in Calcutta, where it is implied that he attends college at Calcutta University, and many of his cases involve British citizens or government officials. The novel was adapted in the Bengali film "Abar Byomkesh Baki" (1972) starring Chhabi Biswas, which was well received. Since then, the detective Byomkesh has become an iconic character in Bengali cinema and has inspired many films in the following decades. The 1974 Hindi film "Byomkesh Bakshi franchises" (1974) and "Byomkesh Bakshi franchise" (1997) also turned into a successful franchise. Bongo and Rani played important roles in first two parts of Abar Byomkesh series. They had more importance than other characters on screen. The official trailer was released on January 2011. The film is set to release on 25 March 2012 in Bangla language. The music of the film has been composed by Sajan and lyrics written by Jai B. Chakravarty and Adul Rezzakul. The album has eight tracks and one instrumental track of 'Abar Raat Ko Byor Bole' (Abar Byomkesh Album).
